Robyn L. Elliott, K.C. practices primarily family law. She advises clients on separation and divorce, parenting, child support, division of property, spousal support and marriage/cohabitation contracts. Robyn is an effective advocate and experienced family law litigator.
Robyn was called to the Nova Scotia Bar in 1992. She founded Elliott Law Inc. in 2010 after many years in private law practice with other lawyers. Robyn received her King’s Counsel designation in 2014. She was awarded the 2015 Canadian Bar Association (Nova Scotia) Distinguished Service Award.
Robyn has a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) (1988) from Saint Mary’s University and a Bachelor of Laws from Dalhousie University (1991).
Service to the profession is very important to Robyn. She serves/has served in many capacities. Robyn is a Past President of the Canadian Bar Association (Nova Scotia); a Past Chair of the Canadian Bar Association National Family Law Section; and a Past Chair of the CBA (Nova Scotia) Family Law Section. Robyn served on the CBA National Board of Directors for three years; the CBA National Finance Committee for two years; and as CBA National Sections Chair for two years. Currently, Robyn is completing her third year as a member of Nova Scotia’s Access to Justice Coordinating Committee and serving as Vice Chair of the Board of the Lawyer’s Insurance Association of Nova Scotia (she will Chair 2019 -2021).
Robyn has been strongly involved in professional education initiatives – both as program planner and speaker. She served two terms on the CBA National Professional Development Committee. In Nova Scotia, she sat on the CBA Professional Development Committee for several years – both as member and Chair. She has presented on family law and law practice management at numerous professional development sessions in Nova Scotia and elswehere in Canada. She participates in public legal education sessions. Early in her career, Robyn was an instructor in a college paralegal program.
Robyn has a long standing interest in alternatives to a courtroom resolution of family law disputes. She has mediation training. Robyn is one of the four founding lawyers of the Association of Collaborative Family Law Lawyers (Nova Scotia) and was the Association’s very first Vice President and Education Chair.
Robyn volunteers in her community. She is a Past President of the YWCA of Halifax where she served on many committees. She has volunteered with the Metro United Way.
In her spare time, Robyn enjoys broadening her horizons though continued learning – a university indigenous course, PADI Open Water Diver certification and violin lessons being amongst her pursuits. Although by no means an athlete, Robyn values time spent bicycling on Nova Scotia’s beautiful trails and doing laps in the swimming pool.
Jackie MacNeil has been a Paralegal with Elliott Law Inc. since 2013. She earned a Bachelor of Arts (Criminology) (2007) from Saint Mary’s University and received a Paralegal Diploma from Eastern College in 2012.
Since joining Elliott Law, Jackie has twice attended the American Bar Association Law Practice Management Section Techshow in Chicago to learn about new technologies and tips for law firms. She hopes to return to Chicago for future conferences.
Originally from St. John’s, Newfoundland, Jackie is a busy mother of 3 (and a rescue dog, Harley) and enjoys spending time with her family, traveling and reading.
